Worship is central to everything that is done at Mount Vernon. We seek to be God-centered and Christ-exalting.  It is only in Jesus Christ that we are able to commune with Almighty God, so in corporate worship we must focus on and make much of Christ!  Corporate worship is when our body of believers worships together.  Worship, however, encompasses far more than what the gathered body does on Sunday mornings or evenings; it is the offering of oneself as a living sacrifice to God and the continual renewing of one’s mind (Romans 12:1-2).

An effective worship service is one in which the things that are done by the gathered body (reading of the Scriptures, singing, preaching of the Word, prayer, baptism, the Lord’s supper, and more) are done “in spirit and truth” (John 4:23).

  • In Spirit: with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength
  • In Truth: in full accord with God’s revealed Word
