A Weekday Ministry of Mount Vernon Baptist Church
“Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.” Luke 2:52
Our Mission
The mission of The Growing Place is to extend the ministry of Mount Vernon Baptist by providing a safe, loving and Christ centered learning environment for two through five year olds. Guidance, ministry and outreach are offered to the children and their families.
Our Staff
We are staffed by a caring group of Christian teachers. All have experience in early childhood and are screened. The wide variety of experience and background of our teachers allow us opportunities to create a total learning environment for your child.
Learning Environment
We believe that each child is a unique individual. We are sensitive to a child’s spiritual, social, emotional and physical needs. We provide a warm and nurturing atmosphere where a child can grow independence and build self-esteem and self-sufficiency.
Curriculum
Our curriculum includes Bible stories and Christian truths as part of our daily themes and class time. We provide a wide range of appropriate learning activities which offer a balance of structure for each age level. Each day allows for centers, circle time, art, playground time and lunch. Our four’s and five’s classes use the A BEKA phonics and writing curriculum. Spanish and science is also offered each week for our threes, fours and fives.
Days & Hours
We have a variety of classes available Monday – Friday, with Full-day options 7:30 am – 6:00 pm and Half-day options 9:00 am – 12:30 pm during the traditional calendar school year. In addition to regular classes, we also have special events throughout the year including parent visitation days (“Muffins for Moms” and “Donuts for Dads”), open houses, field days, and holiday breaks.
Health and Safety Practices
The health and safety of our staff and the children entrusted to our care is our top priority. We are proud to maintain high standards of safety and cleanliness while maintaining a caring and nurturing environment where children can thrive.
- Require all students to enter the building and temperature checked.
- Require all students and staff with respiratory illness symptoms or fever to return home and stay home until fever free for at least 24 hours.
- Frequent disinfecting and sanitizing of classrooms and toys.
- Frequent handwashing by children and staff, which is embedded in our curriculum and daily staff protocols.
- Continuous health and safety training for our staff, including first aid and CPR certification.
